Homewater Fly Co. started with a small frustration: facing a wall of four hundred flies with no real idea which dozen mattered for the river we were about to fish.
Fly fishing doesn’t happen in general. It happens on a specific river, in a specific season, for a fish that has seen a lot of flies. So that’s how we built the shop — not by pattern or by brand, but by home water. Six New England rivers, each with a box we’d actually carry: the Farmington, the Deerfield, the Swift, the Upper Connecticut, the Battenkill, and the Rangeley lakes.
The right flies for the right river
We partner with proven fly tiers who tie every pattern by hand, and we bring the part that decides your day: the edit. We choose the flies that actually earn a place in the box for a specific water and season — the midges and scuds that matter on the Swift, the caddis and evening spinner fall on the Farmington, the streamers that move fish on the Rangeley. Twelve right flies for your water, not a hundred maybes.
The weekly read
Every river page carries a current report — live flows and water temperature straight from the USGS gauges, the season’s hatches, and what the conditions are pointing to this week. It’s built from real data and public reports, not guesswork, and it’s there whether or not you buy a thing.
What we stand for
Barbless where it counts, wet hands, a quick release — and honesty about the water: which rivers run wild, which are stocked, and when it’s simply too warm to fish them at all. If a box isn’t right, we’ll make it right. We’d rather earn a home-water angler for a decade than sell a fly once.
